High School

High School is the final stage of growth at Hill Country Christian School, but it is truly just the jumping off point. As with each division of their academic tenure, we look at each student holistically. The transition from timid freshman to confident senior is made academically through changing classes and learning from subject matter expert teachers, physically through team and individual sports, socially through organizations such as National Honor Society, Chapel Band, Student Council, or through electives such as Yearbook, Speech & Rhetoric, and Home & Consumer Services and spiritually through student guided participation in Bible Study and team building activities in Houses.

Teachers and students build relationships as they study academia and God's word together daily. Accelerated Christian Education (ACE) PACEs, Bob Jones, Abeka, and personally curated curricula provide the opportunity for students and teachers to look at situations from past, present and future through a Biblical perspective. Time management and study skills that were introduced through Middle School lecture classes are fine-tuned and put into practice in High School. It is exciting to watch students recognize that the Pythagorean Theorem learned in 10th Grade Geometry was used by Ancient Greeks studied in 10th Grade World History to inspire painters in the Italian Renaissance Era studied in 12th Grade English to create art studied in 12th Grade Fine Arts.

In recent years, as much as 93% of High School students have participated in team sports. Lessons learned on and off the field guided by Godly coaches will serve these students for a lifetime. Humility, teamwork, diligence, and time management are just a few character qualities taught in sports such as the Clay Sporting Team, 6 Man Football, Track & Field, Basketball, Volleyball, Softball, Baseball, and Golf. Students are also able to pursue individual sports outside of the HCCS sports program.

Building the whole person, all high school students schedule and manage Community Service requirements starting in 9th Grade with 25 hours, 10th Grade with 30 hours, 11th Grade with 50 hours, and 12th Grade with 60 hours. Community Service allows students to reach outside of themselves and support the community around them.

Each class having its own personality and personal goals, generally one-third of HCCS graduates move on to higher education at colleges and universities, one-third go directly into the work force, often family small businesses, and one-third pursue further education and training through community college, vocational training or joining a branch of the US Military.

HCCS alumni have attended Texas A&M University, the University of Michigan, Texas State University, East Texas Baptist University, Colorado Christian University, Oral Roberts University, University of Mary Harden Baylor, Creighton University, and Pensacola Christian College just to name a few. In our 50-year history, HCCS has sent students to the Naval Academy and West Point Military Academy and even boasts a Fulbright Scholar.

Last but certainly not least, our most ardent prayer for each and every high school student at Hill Country Christian School is that they develop and nurture a lasting relationship with our Savior Jesus Christ. We provide the opportunities of House Bible Study, High School Retreat, weekly chapel, an 11th Grade New Testament Leadership class, and training in giving a personal testimony and leading a devotion, but ultimately it is the work of the Holy Spirit that calls each student unto Himself. Both students and staff alike serve as daily examples for walking with the Lord and living out a daily, personal Christian faith. Coaches pray with their students and teach character qualities, our athletes are often seen praying over students on the opposite team, Community Service hours offer examples of servant leadership, teachers pray with and for students in good times and bad, daily opening of God's Word and learning about the world through a Biblical World View. All of these are openings for students to encounter Jesus personally.

Whether on the court, in the classroom, on retreat, on mission, or in church, each and every student at Hill Country Christian School is taught that they are loved by God, by their teachers, and spurred on to greatness.
